Updates

Liminal keeps itself current. You do not download new versions by hand; you restart when one is ready.

Updates arrive by themselves

The app checks for a new version in the background and downloads it. A downloaded update is put in place when the app restarts.

See your version

Settings › About shows two versions: Liminal — the app, with its build number — and the version of the Chromium inside it. The second is the browser version your profiles report to sites.

Check by hand

Choose Check For Updates in the account menu at the foot of the sidebar, or open Settings › About. The Updates row shows where things stand:

StatusWhat it means
Up to dateYou have the latest version.
Downloading…A new version is on its way.
Ready to installIt is downloaded. Press Restart to update.

Note. A restart closes the running profiles. Finish what you are doing in them first.

What changed

Every released version is in the changelog with its date. The download page always has the current build, should you need to install the app again.

Updates and your profiles

An update changes the app, not your catalog. Because a profile always reports the real version of the browser inside Liminal, its User-Agent moves forward with the update — the way a real person’s browser does.

Checked against the released app: October 2026. If the app does something else than this page says, the page is wrong — write to [email protected]. What changed in each version is in the changelog.
