DocumentationSync and teams
Cloud sync
Cloud sync keeps your catalog — profiles, connections, saved accounts and settings — the same on every computer you sign in on. It is part of Pro and Team.
What is synced
Settings › Sync › What Syncs has four switches, all on by default:
- Profiles
- Names, fingerprint settings, the assigned connection and account, the folder and the tags. Startup pages are set on each computer.
- Connections
- Saved proxies and VPN configurations, with their credentials.
- Accounts
- Saved accounts and their cookies.
- App settings
- The theme and the connection settings.
Workspaces, folders, tags, templates and your teams are always synced: they are the frame the rest hangs on.
What is never synced
Browsing history, saved passwords, open tabs and site data stay on the device. So do the cache and the extensions installed in a profile. No plan changes that.
Note. This is the difference between a profile and its browser. The profile — its identity and setup — travels. The browser’s contents do not. A session moves to another computer as a saved account with its cookies.
When it happens
- By itself. Profiles are synced every 5 minutes, and a change to the app’s settings is sent almost at once.
- Live. While you are signed in, the app is told when something in your team changes on another computer, and fetches it.
- On request. Sync Now in Settings › Sync.
The Status line there says what the last sync did and when. It reads plainly: that it is up to date, how many profile changes are waiting, that the app is offline, or which request failed.
A second computer
- Install Liminal and sign in with the same account.
- The app says it is preparing your workspace; the profiles appear in a moment.
- Open a profile. It has the same fingerprint, connection and saved account as on the first computer — and an empty browser: no history, no tabs, no extensions.
Note. A profile is open in one place at a time. Open on one of your computers, it shows on the other as open on the first, and you release it there or close it where it is open — see Who is in a profile.
When two edits meet
If the same profile was changed on two computers, the change that is sent last wins: a computer with an unsent change of its own sends it rather than take the server’s copy. For a connection that could not be saved, the status line names the reason — a newer version on the server, another edit of the same version, rejected data, or a connection that is not available in this team — and asks you to edit the connection again.
A deletion is not lost when you are offline: it is sent when the app is back online.
On the Free plan
The Free plan syncs nothing. Settings › Sync says that cloud sync is available on Pro and Team, with a button that takes you to the upgrade. Your profiles live on the computer where you created them; sign in on another one and you get No Profiles on This Device.
The same holds when a paid term has run out: the catalog stays on your computers and on the server, nothing is deleted, and sync resumes when the plan is paid again — see Payment.
