Quickstart
This page takes you from nothing to a working browser profile. It is the short way through; every step links to the page that explains it in full.
Before you start
- An account. Liminal is in closed beta: an account is created with an invite code that arrives by email. If you do not have one yet, leave your address on the home page.
- A supported computer. A Mac with Apple Silicon on macOS 13 Ventura or newer, or a Windows computer with an ARM processor on Windows 11. The details are in the system requirements.
- A proxy, if you have one. A profile can also run on your own connection, and the paid plans come with built-in proxies — you can start without one.
Install the app
- Sign in on the site and open the download page. Builds are given to signed-in accounts.
- Download the build for your system and install it — the steps for each system are in Install and sign in.
- Open Liminal.
The app opens on the Sign In to Liminal sheet. Type your Email and Password and press Sign In, or press Use Browser to sign in on the site and come back — convenient when the browser already remembers you.
The first time, a short setup follows: what you plan to use Liminal for, your connections, the theme and the language. Every step can be left for later with Skip Setup.
Create a profile
- Open Profiles in the sidebar and press New Profile. The profile is created at once, with a complete fingerprint of its own.
- The Profile Settings panel opens on the right with the name selected — type a name you will recognize.
- Under Connection, choose a saved connection in Proxy or VPN, or keep Direct Connection to use your own network. To add a proxy first, press Add Proxy or VPN… — see Proxies.
Note. A new account may find one profile already in the list after the setup — its settings panel is headed Example profile. It is an ordinary profile: use it, rename it or delete it.
Open it
- Select the profile and press Open, or double-click its row.
- The window shows Opening profile… and then the profile’s own browser — tabs, address bar and all — inside the same window.
- Work as in Chrome. When you are done, press Close in the toolbar.
You can open several profiles and switch between them in the sidebar; each keeps its own cookies, storage and fingerprint. More in The browser in the window.
Check what sites see
With the profile selected, press Check for Leaks in Profile Settings. Liminal looks at the profile’s connection from outside and tells you whether anything — the address, DNS, WebRTC — gives away your own network. What each line of the result means is in Leak check and protection.
Where to go next

- Create and open profilesEverything a profile has and everything you can do with one.
- ProxiesAdd a list of proxies, check them and give one to each profile.
