Fingerprint settings

The fingerprint of a profile is edited in one sheet. This page goes through it from top to bottom.

Open the sheet

Select a profile and, in Profile Settings › Connection, click the Fingerprint row — it shows the platform, language and time zone the profile reports. The sheet opens with the profile’s name under the title.

The line at the top tells you whether the fingerprint agrees with the connection: Connection and fingerprint match or Location doesn’t match the connection.

When the fields are locked

SituationWhat you can do
The profile is runningLook only. Close the profile — the sheet offers Close Profile — and open the sheet again.
Your role in the team is ViewerLook only.
The Free planThe switches Generate Automatically and Match Connection Location, and the New Fingerprint button. The other fields are shown but not editable: Editing these settings is available on Pro and Team.
Pro and TeamEverything.

Browser Identity

Generate Automatically
On by default. The app writes the User-Agent itself; User Agent, Platform and Version are then filled in for you and cannot be edited.
User Agent
The line the browser introduces itself with.
Platform
The system the profile reports: Windows, macOS or Linux.
Version
The browser version.

Note. Whatever you type, saving rewrites the User-Agent into the form Chrome uses for that system and sets the version to the real version of the browser inside Liminal. If the User-Agent and Platform name different systems, the User-Agent decides.

Tip. The surest way to get profiles of one particular system is a template with that Platform.

Location

Match Connection Location
On by default. The language, time zone and country come from the profile’s connection and are refreshed every time the profile opens. While it is on, the fields below are filled in for you.
Language
The main language of the browser, for example de-DE. Changing it changes the first entry of Accept-Language too.
Timezone
A time zone name such as Europe/Berlin.
Accept-Language
The header the browser sends with every request. Built from the language; shown, not edited.

On Pro and Team, when the location differs from the connection, a row Differs from the connection appears with the button Match: it sets the language, the time zone and the country from the connection in one click.

Network

WebRTC
Auto — calls and peer connections use the same route as pages and do not reveal the addresses of your local network. Block UDP — WebRTC may not send anything past the proxy over UDP; some calls will not connect. Off — no restriction, the browser’s own behavior. While Match Connection Location is on, the mode goes back to Auto each time the profile opens with a connection.
Connection Type
What the profile says about its network: Auto, Wi-Fi, Ethernet or Cellular.
Do Not Track
Whether the browser sends the Do Not Track signal: Default, Off or On.

What actually leaves the machine is decided by the connection, not by these fields — see Leak check and protection.

Device

The machine the profile describes. Each value is kept inside what real machines of the chosen system have:

FieldWindows and LinuxmacOS
Screen Width × Screen Height1024–7680 × 768–43201280–6016 × 800–3384
Pixel Ratio1 to 22
Color Depth2424 or 30
CPU Cores4–16, an even number8–16, an even number
Memory8, 16 or 32 GB; Linux also 48, 16 or 32 GB
Touch Points00

A screen size, pixel ratio or number of cores outside its range is brought back into it when you save. A memory size or color depth the system does not have is not accepted: Save stays unavailable.

Privacy

Protections for the things a site measures rather than reads. Each has a cost, so the defaults are not “everything on”.

Canvas
Off, Low, Medium or High: how much noise is added to what the page draws. Off in a new profile — the noise hides your hardware but can itself be noticed.
Audio
Off, Low, Medium or High: the same for audio measurements. High in a new profile.
Fonts
Standard, Minimal or Ultra Minimal — how short the list of fonts shown to a site is; Standard in a new profile. Off shows every font installed on your machine.
WebGL Protection
On in a new profile: the graphics card is reported as one that exists on the profile’s system instead of yours.
Client Rects Protection
Adds noise to the measured sizes of page elements. Off in a new profile, for the same reason as Canvas.

Advanced

The last row of the sheet opens the values most people never touch. Pro and Team only.

Proxy Country
The two-letter country the fingerprint is built for.
Noise Seed
The number all of a profile’s noise is derived from. The same seed gives the same noise, which is what keeps a profile recognizable to a site from one day to the next.
WebGL Vendor, WebGL Renderer
The graphics card named to sites. One pair per system is accepted, so in practice these are for reading.
Save-Data
Whether the browser asks sites for lighter pages.

New Fingerprint, Save, Cancel

New Fingerprint
Generates a whole new device: system, screen, hardware, protections back to their defaults. It is a preview — nothing is saved until you press Save.
Save
Checks the fingerprint, corrects what contradicts itself and stores it. The profile uses it from the next time it opens.
Cancel
Closes the sheet. With unsaved changes it asks first: Discard or Keep Editing.

Important. A new fingerprint makes the profile a different device. For an account that a site already knows on this profile, that is the change the site is watching for — do it when you mean it.
